Emmanuelle Charpentier
Emmanuelle Charpentier (born December 11, 1968) is a French microbiologist, geneticist, and biochemist renowned for her crucial role in developing CRISPR-Cas9 gene-editing technology. Alongside Jennifer Doudna, she discovered how this bacterial system could be adapted to cut DNA at specific sites, enabling precise genetic modifications. This breakthrough has revolutionized molecular biology and medicine, offering new possibilities for treating genetic diseases. For this work, Charpentier was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2020.
